If you're rated 30% or higher, the VA pays additional compensation for your dependents — a spouse, children under 18 (or 18–23 if they're in school), and in some cases a dependent parent. If the VA is paying you as "single with no dependents" but your family situation is different, it's worth updating so your compensation reflects your family.
